Kenneth sees with an artist flair. His style of photography is to keep things natural and always alert to capture the intimacy and details unobtrusively.  Kenneth specializes in creating one-of-a-kind fine art pieces for discerning clients who value individuality and artistry. The vision and efforts have not gone unnoticed. In the past 2 years, Kenneth has garnered 5 top three awards from US-based Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) among many other accolades.

————————————-

C&L: How would you describe your style of photography and where do you draw your inspiration from?

Kenneth: I’ve been described as a spontaneous person and gives attention to details. Inspirations may come naturally on the spot due to the activities or surroundings. However I always try to learn from great photographers like Marcus Bell and Cliff Mautner as well as gains inspirations from movies.

C&L: Is there a place where you would love to photograph a wedding but haven’t yet?

Kenneth: I’m blessed to be able to photograph many beautiful weddings around the world but I still enjoy shooting the most in my own country, the fascinating multi-cultured Malaysia. Growing up in a home with a small piece of land for rice paddy and fishes in Penang, I always wish to go back to my hometown for wedding shoots. It is simple and full of happiness without extravagance of a professional setting. I also hope to use this way to give back to the society that I grew up in.

C&L: What can a bride do to prepare for their wedding photography?

Kenneth: Stay relaxed, it brings out their personality, and of course enjoy the photo shoot!
C&L: Any advice for the couple on how to select a photographer who best suits them?

Kenneth: It is essential to select a photographer based on their shooting style. It will be even better if they are able to choose one they feel “easy to click with” and later become friends. It is my opinion that good wedding photos are usually not created under client-and-service-provider relationship.

C&L: Can you share one tip that you have found useful to your photography?

Kenneth: Great photos are not taken with eyes, but with love, passion and imagination; this is the simple belief I always based on.

Bride & Groom: Siew Voon & Keith
Wedding Photography: Alex Tan,  http://www.alex-tan.com
Wedding Gown Designer: Chiffon & Lace
Wedding Gown Description: A two-piece wedding dress with chiffon pleated corset top and a fit and flare silk satin dress, which nicely accentuates her body. The bridal gown completes with a dramatic chapel train.

Alex started his photography career in 2009 when he upgraded from a rusty old compact camera to a state of the art DSLR. His earliest photographs were landscapes and still-lifes until he was asked to photograph a friend’s wedding. From that day forward, Alex knew what his true calling was and decided that he wanted to focus on capturing the beauty of weddings.

C&L: How would you describe your style of photography and where do you draw your inspiration from?

Alex: I would say my style is a combination of Classic, Dramatic and Artistic. My inspiration can come from anywhere – traveling, surfing the net, searching for unique settings. A couple years ago, I was at the Malaysia F1 Sepang Cicuit and thought this would be an incredible location for a photo shoot. 2 years later, I was extremely excited that I was able to arrange for an engagement photography session there. I’m proud to say that it was the first engagement wedding photography session ever done in F1 Sepang Circuit.

C&L: Is there a place where you would love to photography a wedding but have not get the opportunity to do so yet?

Alex: There are many places I would love to photograph such as London, Paris, Rome, Venice, Santorini because of the heritage architecture.

C&L: What can a bride do to prepare for their photo shoot?

Alex: It’s important to discuss with their wedding photographer the overall theme that they are looking for. We need to ensure that we understand and are helping them create their dream settings.

C&L: Any advice for the couple on how to select a wedding photographer who best suits them?

Alex: They should obviously look at some of the wedding photographer’s previous work to ensure their style is what the couple are looking for.  It is also essential to meet with the photographer in person to get a feel for their personality. If he/she is the couple’s ideal photographer who meets all their requirement, and they feel confident in him, sign him up !! :)

There are so many beautiful aspects to Celeste’s wedding dress which she wears for her wedding ceremony held in a veritable heaven on earth, South Lake Tahoe. Celeste expressed her desire to have a dress that would suit this romantic location and have something dramatic, with the feel of a ball gown, but without the added weight. We decided on a gown that featured a lace corset with a network of boning that accentuated her figure. The corset top was enhanced by adding a belt with 3 lovely little organza flowers on the side. As for the skirt, we introduced the use of multiple layered of sheer shimmering organza that added the volume but kept it light and airy.

Celeste had an additional request. She had planned a wedding reception in Malaysia and wanted a fresh new look. Could we work around those ever-present budget constraints? Of course! Our solution was to design a bridal gown that has “dual-looks”. Enhance the lace corset with detachable features and match it with a silk satin mermaid skirt and voila – a completely different look! We will feature this second look in Part 2 of this series. Check back soon!

We had a wonderful opportunity to design the wedding gown for Messi, a beautiful lass from Kuala Lumpur. She wanted her wedding dress to be bold, imaginative, different – something special! So we donned our creative caps and got cracking! As designers, these are the moments we live for…

We began with a relatively short dress which perfectly complements Messi’s tall slender frame. Just for good measure, we also added a distinctively long train (to further make the other ladies envious of those long sexy legs!). Elegant pearl embellishments round it off, offset with an asymmetrical shoulder. The final touch is a demure burst of organza floral appliques.

We top it off with a matching set of fine organza flowers for her hair piece.

Messi got her wish: A beautiful gown that makes her special day truly memorable. And of course, gown that makes the other girls jealous.

Thanks Messi for providing these beautiful pictures which were taken during an engagement wedding photography session in KL. We hope you enjoy them!

Photographer: Jenny Sun

The stunning wedding pictures were taken by Jenny Sun, an amazingly talented photographer known for her simple yet expressive style. As the daughter of an avid travel photographer and a professional in the design industry, creative images have been an integral part of her life for as long as she can remember.

Jenny first began her foray into the field in 2000, where she dabbled in black-and-white film, touching myriad subjects – still lifes, landscapes, architecture – before being lured (charmed, one might say) by weddings and the people who attend them.

“There is just something magically arresting about catching people, their expressions, their emotions, within the frame. I love the buzz of being there to seize those moments that they will remember and want to keep for the rest of their lives. My philosophy is that the best photos should inspire you, move you, and rock your senses! They should speak volumes about you, and showcase all the nuances that make your love story unique.”

Jenny is ever-ready and waiting to capture the most candid and intimate moments of the lovebirds’ day. Her unobtrusive approach, coupled with an almost obsessive need for detail, means that all the couple has to do is to kick-back and have fun!

It is this fresh and honest approach to her work, seeing the world through her romance-tinted lenses, that has won the hearts of many couples spanning the globe. She is well-traveled, her clientele spanning both East and West.

Chiffon & Lace got together with Jenny Sun to give her a short interview about her work.

——————

C&L: Is there a place where you would love to shoot a wedding but haven’t yet?

Jenny: Oh, so many! I would love to shoot on a real rustic farm with horses! And somewhere in Canada, Switzerland, or New Zealand where there are mountains, lakes and meadows all in one area! :D

C&L: What can a bride do to prepare for their photo shoot?

Jenny: Choose a visual theme and communicate that with the photographer from the start through to the finish before the shoot :) Then research research research on images and things that will make that visual theme come to life! :) It’s amazing what ideas can come out through the research process, and how much your photographer can help advise what will or will not work.

C&L: Any advice for the couple on how to select a photographer who best suits them?

Jenny: Choose a photographer whos work you really LOVE (not just like or think is okay), and who you connect with on a personal level. That connection is really important as the better the chemistry between photographer and client, the better the photos turn out. It has ALWAYS been the case from my experience :)
